Kraszna-Krausz
Research Event

The Kraszna-Krausz Foundation and Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London (UAL), collaborate on The Photobook Sessions, a two-day programme of talks, workshops and displays around photobook publishing.

The Photobook Sessions aims to explore the state of photographic publishing and provide a forum for discussing the making of books and the field of criticism around publishing. The event celebrates a partnership between the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation and Camberwell College of Arts, UAL. The collaboration is initiated by a gift from the Foundation of books longlisted for its annual prize acknowledging excellence in publishing, to the College’s library and special collections. In 2021, The Photobook Sessions was held online and had over 270 attendees from more than 25 countries.

This event for April 2023 explores the thematic of Fast and Slow publishing, as activist publishing practices are brought into dialogue with deep research, and new technology meets institutional time and environmental long durations. A series of discursive forums focused upon the critical interpretation and reception of photobooks is curated by Duncan Wooldridge & Melinda Gibson (Camberwell College of Arts), and David Solo (Kraszna-Krausz Foundation), and will be held online, with a series of accompanying in person events.

Directed to a public and industry audience, final year undergraduate students, postgraduate and research students and staff, the event brings leading industry practitioners to the University to share professional practice and expertise, and to build future dialogues.
